The North West Chapter is saddened by the recent passing of Nester Ntsabo, owner of Lengau Tours.

The chapter wishes to send its condolences to Nester’s family and colleagues.

On 18 August 2020 Sheldon Hooper – a much loved member of the Thornybush team – was tragically killed by an elephant at The River Lodge. Sheldon was a competent and passionate guide with a great sense of care for both the bush and his fellow man.

Sheldon’s bereft family have courageously initiated a Foundation in memory of Sheldon; the intention is to keep Sheldon’s wishes, dreams and love for the natural world alive and ongoing for future generations to enjoy.

All members of the Thornybush team are fully committed to supporting the Sheldon Hooper Foundation.

The first step is for the Foundation to find its true focus. To assist in achieving this, SATSA members involved in conservation, guiding, tracking and safari travel enthusiasts are asked please participate in the survey https://bat2.iyoq.co.za/SEHF/SEHF.htm.

Thank you in advance for your care and input.

The World Youth Student and Educational (WYSE) Travel Confederation is pleased to announce the release of a new publication titled The Youth Travel Industry and COVID-19.

This report provides a summary of survey results derived from the WYSE Travel Confederation COVID-19 Travel Business Impact Survey for the period March – August 2020. The monthly survey asks travel and tourism businesses questions concerning the impact that COVID-19 is having, and is predicted to have, on their business. The six-month review addresses findings related to core questions that were repeated across the monthly surveys, namely:

– Changes in demand
– Top concerns and actions taken in response to COVID-19
– Messaging to consumers
– Business outlook for 2020 and 2021
– Recovery forecast.

The report concludes by highlighting the interconnectedness of different types of businesses dealing in youth, student and educational travel and some important issue areas for all active in the industry to monitor in the coming period.

SATSA’s Garden Route, in partnership with Wesgro’s Cape Town & Western Cape Convention Bureau, are excited to bring you the first-ever Garden Route Business Events Fam, which will showcase the region’s ability to host inspiring events and meetings, along with its attractions, lesser-known gems and hospitable establishments. This is just in time for incorporating into your post-pandemic planning.

Says Wesgro CEO Tim Harris: “The Garden Route is an inspiring destination featuring an abundance of nature activities, a wonderful climate and spectacular scenic and open-air attractions – the perfect place for any business event or trip.

Following last week’s successful Overberg and Garden Route Mega Fam, we look forward to showcasing a different side to the region and welcome our continued collaboration and partnership with SATSA.”

The Business Events Fam will take place from 16 to 18 November 2020 and mark our gradual and much-anticipated move from virtual to in-person events.

BUYERS’ PARTICIPATION

Taking into consideration the impact of COVID-19, space will be limited so please make sure that you have registered your interest by 3 November 2020. This year we are also introducing a small participation fee to help cover gratuities, meals, etc.

Business Event Buyers who are based in Cape Town and surrounds, or who are able to get themselves to Cape Town, are invited to register interest here.

The participation fee will be R500 per person. All gratuities, accommodation, meals, activities and transport whilst on the tour will be included. Drinks and other items of a personal nature will be for your own cost.

Once final participation selection is made, we will be in touch to advise you of the outcome. This is not a task we look forward to as we would prefer to take everyone interested, but unfortunately costs and COVID-19 dictate.

Details of pick-up locations and times will be communicated following selection.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPERIENCE

On 16 November 2020, a road transfer will depart from Cape Town International Airport to Mossel Bay where you will literally stretch your legs on the longest zip line over the ocean in the world. This will be followed by lunch and some site visits before spending the evening at the beautiful Fancourt.

Day 2 is packed with site visits and experiences including a visit to Redberry Farm and boating in Knysna. Dinner and cocktails at Knysna Hollow will be followed by an overnight stay at Turbine Hotel.

Day 3 is a road transfer back to Cape Town with a site visit or two along the route.

Please note that the itinerary is subject to change without prior notice, but we will try to avoid this if possible.
